For 2022 we will continue our

Beginners Program that will run as separate morning and afternoon sessions.

About Us:

We utilize Optimists  in our fleet for our young sailors. Our program is available to both GYC’s members and non members, from 8 to 14 years of age and less than 135 lbs. 

We have experienced instructors ready provide a fantastic experience on Long Island Sound.

Details:

• The Junior Sailing Program runs late June to mid August,  in the morning 9:00 AM to Noon and 1 to 4 PM five days per week from Monday to Friday.
• GYC owns the boats that will be used as the primary fleet, but if you would like to bring your own Optimist, we encourage you to do so.

• There will be plenty of sailing on fair weather days, while on poor weather days alternative activities will be planned.

Classes:

Optimist- Beginner

Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 12 PM or 1PM to 4 PM

Offered for children with no prior sailing experience. This class emphasizes safety and teaches basic sailing skills including knowledge of parts of the boat, rigging, launching, basic sailing, water safety and confidence in handling all points of sail. Our beginner class is supported by a staff of Junior Instructors, so there is plenty of supervision and one-on-one instruction.

• Our program is available to non members but Members participate at a reduced rate.  Non-GYC members should email juniorsailgyc@gmail.com for availability.
•  Enrollment opens/begins in April 1, 2022 for Members and on April 9, 2022 for non- members.
