Commissioning Day – Begins the season first weekend in June

Back in 1959, club members built the first dock, which ran along the West River and accommodated approximately 50 boats. A small clubhouse with picnic tables was built on the property, providing a gathering place for our predecessor members.

Fast forward, and Guilford Yacht Club has grown to have space for over 150 vessels up to 50 feet in length, one of the most picturesque spots on the Connecticut shoreline, our beautiful clubhouse and great lawn, pool, tennis courts and a wealth of great programs.

Blessing for Our Fleet, Harbor and Club

We gather together as one community to express a holy intention—that our time at this club, on our boats, and with each other be restorative, full of joy and play.  For those weary from work, may we find strength and renewal.  For those eager to travel, may our wanderlust be satisfied.  May we appreciate each moment of togetherness, work, pleasure and play as the precious gifts they are.  May we not take anything for granted—but rather be grateful for our many gifts.  Gifts of health, boats, sunsets, and summer storms.  Gifts of swimming, fishing, ospreys and eagles.  Gifts of sea and tides, dancing, music, and late night conversations.  We give thanks for them all.

We pray also for the preservation of this plot of earth entrusted to us.  May we care for her and keep her clean so that others may enjoy this beauty in years to come.  And we pray for safety throughout this season—that no harm will come to any of us or those we love.  May we look out for one another, practice hospitality and kindness towards each other and our guests. May our friendships deepen and may our community continue to thrive and grow.

For this we pray,  AMEN.
